picked up our pre-ordered sauerbraten there under corona on christmas day. we liked it very much! when the corona is less again we will be happy to go out to eat there.

Visit based on the reviews and in the Essen city guide. One of the worst evenings I've had so far. At first we were greeted by stressed staff. The order was placed quickly. Service was mediocre. The soft drinks were warm. The air conditioning system aimed directly at our backs made us feel uncomfortable. Then came the main course. Steak wasn't medium but bloody. After complaining, it was reluctantly taken away. After serving again, the worst case scenario, steak burnt on the underside and served on the plate with the beautiful side. So I was presented with two shoe soles with a burned side. One big disappointment. The restaurant, the premises are a 10/10 The rest is just sad, at least it was my experience.

Nice basement restaurant, nice service and, in my opinion, a good and fine selection on the menu. I was very satisfied with my fidch dish. The announced duet came as a harmonic trio - the pikeperch was joined by salmon. Delicious.

The seats were cleaned properly and the chairs were especially comfortable. I think all the staff there did a very good job and we think the prices are fair too.

We haven't been to the Kiepenkerl for a long time - we've made up for that now. Since our last visit it has been remodeled, it has become much nicer, it is modern and tasteful. During our visit it was very empty, this is due to the Corona period. We still felt very, very comfortable, attentive, very friendly service, everything was very stylish. At the moment there is a menu carousel, and here it is as always: great food, very good wine selection, a wonderful evening. Everything tasted good, every single course. Go there, it's worth it, you'll eat well and be served nicely.

I have been going to the Kiepenkerl every now and then for a few years now - so far always at lunchtime. There is a changing, varied and very delicious lunch menu, which has so far been very tasty without exception. At the end of the year it is better to call in advance - especially then the restaurant is often booked completely or is generally very well attended. I can recommend the Kiepenkerl without reservation!

We had a great evening in a pleasant atmosphere and with delicious food. The ingredients were very fresh and the menu varied. The attentive service staff gave us great hospitality so that we felt completely comfortable. Any time!

We went to the Kiepenkerl with a large group. Despite different tastes, each of us found something in the menu. All dishes were served at the same time. The food was very good quality, the waiters attentive and friendly throughout the evening. We would love to come back.

Waited 2 hours for the food. Some people that came after us were served way before us. Terrible service...

Really nice place to eat! We had to wait doe a bit but it was worth the wait. Black agnus could have been better.
